WindJammer is a story full of strange characters. Here's a "short" biography on them. THey will probably get longer in the future as things unfold and new characters will be added. Ooooh.

Icarus “The White Crane”
Age: 23
Species: Human

Our main protagonist! Whoo!
In a nutshell, Icarus is the arrogant, cantankerous and somewhat idiotic captain of the Albetross. “The White Crane” is a self-given title which no one ever addresses him by, to his annoyance. He’s a rude man who can come off as a sexist, but he also knows what he’s doing when it comes to commanding the ship….most of the time.

His official occupation is “treasure hunting” though he can be found as a hand-for-hire when money is low. He takes both of these jobs very seriously (and no, he’s not a pirate. He indirectly steals from pirates. Dar har.).He travels the world and puts up a strong looking front but is there something he’s hiding? Or is there something hiding from him? Hmmm……that could explain his reoccurring nightmares. Because of these nightly dreams, he distrusts women and of their long hair.

His name is derived from the Icarus of Greek mythology, who flew too close to the sun and plummeted into the sea after the wax of his wings melted. Could this story have close connections with his name? And to the fact that Icarus always dreams about flying into the sky? Or is it simply a reference to his tendency to be dreaming of great things and not being able to accomplish his goals?

Bahari
Age: 8
Species: Canzion (Cans-eye-on)

Icarus’ agile navigator and guide (as well as his object of abuse). He looks like a dog, but he's really a member of a proud race that is a dog-lion-like hybrid, which explains his ability to track for long distances. He is a loyal lad and treats Icarus like an older brother. An older brother whom he dispises and Icarus returns the feelings.

Bahari is often irritated about his life’s direction and about how he’s basically the only sane male on the ship. However, he can also be very sweet. All in all, he’s pretty much your average kid with a smart mouth full of sharp teeth. He also develops a crush on Nexus when she saves him from a bunch of rats. Isn’t that sweet?

Bahari is an African name meaning “Sea man”, which suits our fellow rather well since he’s working aboard a ship.

Nexus Lacier
Age: 19
Species: Human

Nexus was found below deck in a storage area in tattered clothing when Crouton stole a treasure map from Icarus. The only thing known about her past is that she was shipwrecked and she snuck aboard the Albetross. Much to her surprise, Icarus let her stay on board (only because she owned him work for all the food she and Crouton ate!). She finds Icarus to be an over-demanding jackass. The only thing she really takes seriously is his “request” to keep her long hair tied back.

She’s very skilled with her hands, though not with her cooking. She’s also able to fight well with her bandolier-chain-thing. Nexus can be a strong female-lead but she’s also very lonely aboard the ship and often wonders where the people she knows are.

Nexus is a word meaning “a means of connections; a link or tie”, which is an obvious joke about her trademark chain. Lacier is derived from “L’acier” which means “the steel” in French. Again, it is referring to her chain, but can also be a reference to her iron-will and strong character.

Crouton
Age: ???
Species: Canine (mixed-breed)

This speedy stray dog stole a treasure map from Icarus’ hand which led to his and Nexus’ discovery. He’s from the same shipwreck as Nexus and thus, is her immediate companion. He’s often the neutral outsider of the group, looking in on the squabbles and bickerings. He does not have the ability to talk but it’s easy to see what he’s thinking about.

Crouton’s name is rather simple; he’s as cute as those little stale pieces of bread. Awwww…. (it’s amazing how many people fall for his cuteness.)
